Chaz Rainey represents and advises clients throughout the technology, media, and entertainment industries, on matters related to: complex commercial litigation, finance, development, production, distribution, IP licensing, rights of publicity, copyrights, trademarks, and other related issues. In addition to serving as managing director of Rainey LLP, he concurrently serves as Head of Legal and Business Affairs for the publicly traded media company Kartoon Studios (NYSE:TOON) and as an independent director for multiple businesses operating in the media and entertainment sectors.

Background

Chaz began his legal career at an AMLAW 25 firm and was subsequently hired as the first employee of a sports gambling startup that went on to be acquired by Caesars Entertainment for $3 billion.  From there, he served as the managing partner of a multi-jurisdictional boutique law firm, where his practice included entertainment litigation, intellectual property, and international investment disputes. He subsequently spent several years as one of four partners in the prestigious Los Angeles based law firm Hamrick & Evans, where he ran the entertainment transactions practice, representing a variety of independent film producers, directors, writers, and on-screen talent. While a partner at H&E, he also served as General Counsel for Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment, where he resolved a decades long multi-million dollar dispute involving the name and likeness rights of the late comic book icon Stan Lee.

One of only a handful of attorneys licensed in California, New York, Nevada, Texas, and the District of Columbia, he has successfully represented clients in federal and state courthouses throughout the nation, while also having represented clients in arbitration forums throughout the world.

In addition to his work as a lawyer, Chaz has executive produced a number of motion pictures and owns the independent record label Modern Dominion Records, the IP developer Modern Dominion Media, and the online retailer Not So Ordinary Apparel.
